Chiapas · From Palenque
A day at the Ch'ol-run cascades half an hour from Palenque — five tiers of turquoise pools stepping down through jungle. Swim, rope-swing, and eat homemade tacos at the community kitchen.
Full-day itinerary
Air-conditioned van, coffee and pan on board. Forty-five minutes east through the jungle to Roberto Barrios.
The Ch'ol Maya community of Roberto Barrios runs the site. Your entry fee goes to them, not a concessionaire.
Start high, work down. Rope swings, natural chutes, and — if you want — the cliff jump above the second tier.
Cochinita or hongos, hand-made tortillas, agua de chaya, cooked by the mothers' cooperative next to the falls.
The last tier is the deepest — three meters in the middle, calm on the edges. Snorkel gear provided if you want it.
Drop-off at your hotel by 17:00. Combined day with the Palenque ruins available on request.
