Full-day itinerary

Before the busloads, and after they leave

  1. Pickup in Valladolid or Mérida

    Air-conditioned van and coffee on board. Two hours through henequen fields to the gate.

  2. First in the gate

    We enter at opening. The Serpent Pyramid, empty. Take the photo before anyone else can.

  3. The Great Ball Court & Skull Rack

    The largest ball court in Mesoamerica, and the tzompantli — carved skulls stacked in stone.

  4. Sacred Cenote & El Caracol

    The offering pool and the round observatory. What the Maya knew about Venus, from the stone up.

  5. Lunch & cenote swim in Ik Kil

    Regional Yucatecan lunch, then a swim in a 26-meter-deep sinkhole ringed by hanging roots.

  6. Return

    Back to Valladolid by 18:30 or Mérida by 19:30, traffic permitting.

A federally licensed archaeologist-guide (SECTUR), fluent in English and Spanish, ten years on-site.
